Form of a function in manufacturing quality control?

Hi, Is it possible to write a function for costs to the manufacturer when a product is outside specifications? When the item is between 9 and 11 cm long, there are no costs, but outside these limits, the cost is $10 per item. I could write it in the form of a probability density function including words (';If';...) for cases %26lt;9, 9 to 11, and %26gt;11 cm, but is a function without words possible?
